With its long history of integration and education, the state of Mississippi boasts of no less than 25 top class universities. However the best part of it is that whichever university one chooses, financial aid in Mississippi is available. Such aids are available not only in form of grants, fellowships, and other assistance but also in form of Mississippi scholarships and therefore financial constraints won’t come on the way of pursuing education for any meritorious student in Mississippi.

Mississippi Scholarships and Mississippi Financial Aid Types

Four types of Mississippi finance aid are available for aspirant students. As usual the first two of them are federal and state grants and aids while the other two are Mississippi scholarships and aids provided by universities and colleges as well as other organizations and foundations.

Mississippi State Finance Aid

Federal aids and financial assistance provided for students are usually uniform in pattern and obtained by applying through FAFSA or the free application for federal student aid. However the state based Mississippi financial aid has some different characteristics in comparison to other states.

Usually such financial aids are available in two forms. One is for the undergraduates while the second one is for the graduate. Junior or the senior college students those are pursuing the license for Class “A” teachers and are residents of Mississippi would be eligible for the William Winter Teacher scholarship in Mississippi.

Other notable aid programs are the summer developmental program grant, nursing education scholarship or loans for junior or senior students, Nissan scholarship, Mississippi tuition assistance grant, scholarship for law enforcement officer and fireman services, and the very special eminent scholarships grant. Last but not the least there is the higher education legislative plan for those who cannot cover all their educational expenses with other aid programs and health care professions loan and Mississippi scholarship for undergraduates.

Property crime is one of the most common types of crimes committed in Mississippi. In fact, in 2008, there were 86,408 instances of crimes against property. And the statistics indicate that this disturbing trend is likely to continue throughout 2009 and into 2010.

Property crimes are very serious offenses in Mississippi. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most common types of crimes committed throughout the state. Crimes involving property is broad category that includes any sort of offense that involves damage private or public property. Some of the most common crimes in Mississippi include:

* Arson: arson is a well known type of crime in Mississippi that involves setting an intentional setting or attempt to set a fire in order to destroy or deface property. Many arson crimes are also part of a grander scheme, for instance setting a fire in order to collect on insurance money.
* Shoplifting: this common crime is the theft of property from a retail establishment without paying for it. Although many stores and shops in Mississippi have developed anti-shoplifting procedures, it remains one of the most common crimes in Lee County.
* Burglary: Commonly referred to as breaking and entering, burglary is the willful entering or remaining in the property of another to commit a crime. Although the most common crime committed during a burglary in northeastern Mississippi is larceny/theft, virtually any other crime against property or people can occur during such a situation.
* Theft/Larceny: The simplest of all property crimes, these two similar offences involve the taking and/or removal of someone else’s property without their permission.
* Vandalism: Graffiti, defacement, smashing windows, all fall under vandalism. Virtually anything that causes a diminishment of value or use of public or private property can be considered vandalism.

Each of these crimes carries a serious penalty in Mississippi. The current economic situation throughout the Southeast, as well as the nation at large, creates a climate for property crime to thrive. The disparity of wealth in certain locations makes it difficult for people to make wise choices, or often drive them into decisions that they, under normal circumstances would never have considered.

Mississippi property crime law is very complicated and difficult to interpret. What can start as a simple misunderstanding can quickly spiral into a life-changing event that has dire consequences. The best way to protect yourself from being caught in up in a situation beyond your control is to do your best to understand the law, but if you are facing charges for property crimes in Mississippi consult a dedicated and experience property crime attorney without delay.

The Mississippi River is one of the most popular rivers in the United States. The river’s length is 3,770 kilometers making it the 2nd longest river in the country. The river begins at the Lake Itasca part of Minnesota up to the Gulf of Mexico. The term Mississippi is taken from the word Ojibwe which literally means Great River.

A change in the route of the Mississippi River was caused by earthquakes next to the fault zone of New Madrid which sits at the center of St. Louis and Memphis. The three major earthquakes which happened during the year 1811 and 1812 have caused the temporary reversal of the river. The Reverie settlement located in Tennessee was stopped from the Tipton County and was diverted to the area of the Arkansas River. The earthquakes have also led to the formation of the Reelfoot Lake.

Later on, the lower part of the Mississippi River have naturally diverted to its ending path to the entrance of the Gulf of Mexico. This phenomenon occurred because river’s channel was blocked with deposits of mud. The water level rose as a result.

In addition, Mississippi River is combined with other rivers which serve as tributaries. These rivers include St. Croix River, Minnesota River, Wisconsin River, Iowa River, Skunk River, Des Moines River and the Illinois River. The river also has sub-tributaries, namely the Platte River and the Tennessee River.

The Mississippi River is a historical site and one of America’s most valued parts of its natural possessions. It is also a sanctuary to over 320 types of birds. The river is also an integral part of the surrounding communities contributing to the economy and environmental aspect. It has been an inspiration in the creation of a cultural heritage.

The Mississippi River has also been a subject in many cultural, music and arts. Novels have been written, songs have been composed pertaining to the wonders of this river.

The river is presently one of the tourist attractions in the U.S. It is a famous place for water skiing. Historically, the sport of water skiing was discovered in this river by Ralph Samuelson during 1922. It was also in Mississippi River that the first ski jump was held in 1925.

The Mississippi River boasts of its seven National Parks which attract a lot of local and foreign tourists every year. The Mississippi National River and Recreation Area was organized in order to protect and preserve the environment of the river.

There are other organizations established who join forces in protecting the river. All joining this worthy cause are Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, Effigy Mounds National Monument, Natchez National Historical Park, Vicksburg National Military Park and the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park.

There are a lot of cruise lines which offers great travel packages for tourists to have an opportunity to witness the magnificent wonder of this historical river. Tourist can enjoy visiting the ten states, all parts of the Mississippi River. Hotels and restaurants are abundant to cater to the needs of the travelers.

The Mississippi River is not just an ordinary river. It is a historical heritage and serves a vital role in the existence of the habitats in its surrounding lands.
